Terrans have a quaint expression.
"Idle hands are Devon's playthings."
I will not pretend to have any idea who this Devon individual is, but the axiom generally is regarded to mean one should always keep busy. It's advice I often heed.
As a Time Lord, I travel and spend much of my time in Bifrost and do tend to... make adjustments to her.
But I must admit, I have a strong fondness for more archaic modes of transport. In my spare moments, I often find myself restoring conventional spacecraft I find in my travels. I often keep a tachyon drive yacht I've named Helios parked in one of the landing bays of Vanishing Point. Sometimes I can be found taking her out for a joy ride to unwind and get some alone time.
I bring this up to give some background as to why the story I'm about to relate is... the story I'm about to relate.
Recently, I was travelling through the eastern arm of Mutter's Spiral, investigating an anomalous reading I'd gotten from Bifrost.
Upon arrival, I found a ship. A moderate-sized exploration vessel of unknown origin, floating, abandoned int the great vastness of a nebula. Being, well, ME, I decided I had to investigate.
The ship was large enough for a standard crew of about a dozen with two staterooms, standard crew dormitory and what I presume is the commander's quarters. The main reactors and drive seemed to be a tachyon pulse drive, similar to that of Helios, but, clearly somewhat more advanced.
In the shuttle bay, there was a mid-range ion-drive survey shuttle (I've since named Konshu).
The ship, herself, seemed to be largely undamaged, though the reactor had leaked and was clearly without power for at least a century.
In other words, this ship was the jackpot of my hobby.
I have towed the ship to Vanishing Point and am in the process of repairing the reactor.
New Gallifreyan society doesn't have a vessel of this nature. While the odds of our people NEEDING to use such an antique are quite slim, I am going to make her space-worthy again and keep her at the ready, docked at Vanishing Point.
She is now T.L.S Asteria.
